Beyond the white beaches and clear water of Koh Kood, much of the island remains connected to old forest, freshwater streams, fishing villages, coconut groves, local food and communities that have lived with the sea for generations.
Koh Kood Nature & Local Heritage brings these different parts of the island into one 3-day journey. We visit the fishing communities of Ao Salad and Ao Yai, walk into the forest to see the Giant Makha Tree, spend time at Klong Yai Kee and Klong Chao waterfalls, and explore the old community of Klong Mad. These places have been selected because together they give a much clearer picture of how people live on Koh Kood and how closely that life is still connected to the island’s forests, freshwater and sea.
Throughout the 3 Days 2 Nights, everything is arranged as a Private Journey. We meet you at Trat Airport, travel across to Koh Kood with your JC Tour Heritage Guide, and continue around the island by private vehicle with a local driver. At the end of each day, you return to Koh Kood Paradise Beach Resort for two nights by the sea.
The timing matters to us. A waterfall deserves enough time to walk in, cool down and enjoy the forest. A fishing village is more interesting when you can see how people actually live rather than stopping for a few photographs. Local food deserves time at the table. And after exploring the island, there should still be part of the day when you can return to the resort, walk along the beach or simply rest.
That is how we have planned this journey.

Klong Chao Beach
A Natural Side of Koh Kood
has a long stretch of soft white sand meeting clear water that gradually changes from pale turquoise near the shore to deeper blue farther out. Coconut palms and tropical greenery remain close behind the beach, while the gently sloping seabed makes this an easy place for barefoot walks, swimming, or finding a quiet spot near the water.
On calm days, the sea can become clear enough to see the sandy bottom through the shallows. Afternoon is especially pleasant as the light begins to soften along Koh Kood’s western coast. There is no need to plan much here. Walk along the beach, swim when you feel like it, then find somewhere comfortable to sit and stay for a while. Klong Chao Beach is one of those places where the natural setting already does most of the work.
Ao Salad Fishing Village
Local Life by the Sea
Ao Salad Fishing Village is a worthwhile stop for anyone who wants to see Koh Kood beyond its beaches. Wooden homes stand above the water, fishing boats are moored beside the village, and local families continue their daily routines along the walkways. Spending some time here gives you a closer look at how the sea remains part of everyday life for the people of Koh Kood.
Small restaurants and local stalls also sell fresh seafood and seasonal products prepared within the community. Buying something directly from local families helps support the village while giving you a taste of what is produced here. Walk through Ao Salad without rushing, watch the boats come and go, and stop for food or a local product along the way. It is a simple and natural way to experience Local Koh Kood through its people, food and everyday life by the sea.
Giant Makha Tree
Deep in the Forest of Koh Kood
shows a very different side of Koh Kood from the beaches most travelers first come to see. This enormous tree has stood within the island’s forest for generations, with a massive trunk, deeply weathered bark and a canopy rising high above the surrounding vegetation. Standing beneath it gives an immediate sense of how old and well established the forest in this part of the island really is.
The experience begins as you leave the coast behind and enter the quieter interior of Koh Kood. Once you reach the tree, take a moment to look closely at the trunk and then follow its branches upward into the canopy. There is no activity to complete and no reason to hurry. A few quiet minutes here are enough to appreciate something that has been growing on Koh Kood long before the island became the travel destination we know today.
Klong Yaikee Waterfall
A Quiet Corner of the Forest
is tucked away in the forest of northern Koh Kood. Freshwater flows over natural rock formations into a pool surrounded by dense tropical greenery. The waterfall is modest in size, and that is part of its appeal. The walk in is peaceful and shaded, the air becomes cooler beneath the trees, and you will often hear the sound of running water before the falls come into view.
We include Klong Yai Kee as a change of scenery after spending time around Koh Kood’s coast. Sit on the rocks beneath the trees, enjoy the cooler forest air, or take a swim in the natural pool when seasonal water conditions are suitable. It is an easy stop that requires very little planning, yet gives you a good look at the freshwater and forest environment found within the northern part of the island.
Klong Mad Village
Everyday Life on Koh Kood
Klong Mad Village is one of Koh Kood’s long-established communities, where houses, waterways, fishing boats, coconut groves and the sea remain closely connected to everyday life. Walking through the village feels very different from visiting the island’s beaches. There is no particular landmark to look for. The interesting part is simply seeing how an island community continues to live around the water.
Take an easy walk through the village and notice the fishing boats along the canal, small local shops, homes and people going about their day. Depending on the time, you may come across local food or products, while on quieter days the village itself is enough reason to stay a little longer. Klong Mad gives you a useful glimpse of Koh Kood as a place where people live, work and raise families, not only as an island where travelers come for a holiday.
Klong Chao Waterfall
Freshwater, Forest & History
is one of Koh Kood’s best-known freshwater environments. Water from the island’s forested interior flows over natural rock formations into a large pool surrounded by trees and shade, creating a cool place to visit even though you are on a tropical island. Klong Chao also has a historical connection with King Vajiravudh, Rama VI, who visited Koh Kood during his reign, adding another layer of interest to the waterfall and its place in the island’s history.
The experience starts as you leave the road and walk into the forest. Traffic and outside sounds gradually disappear, replaced by leaves, birds and running water. When water levels and conditions are suitable, you can swim in the natural pool, sit on the rocks or rest beneath the trees. Visiting Klong Chao also helps explain something important about Koh Kood: the clear sea around the island is only part of its natural environment. Much of the island is still covered by forest, with freshwater streams running from the interior toward the coast.

Ao Yai Fishing Village
Life Between Forest and Sea
is a coastal community in southern Koh Kood, where houses and wooden walkways extend above the water and fishing boats line the sheltered bay. Green hills and forest rise behind the village, creating a setting that shows how closely local life is connected to both land and sea. If you arrive when the fishing boats are returning, you may see catches being unloaded, equipment prepared and the working routines that continue here every day. The same sea travelers come to enjoy is also where local families work and earn their living.
Spend some time walking through the village, watching the boats and seeing daily life at close range. Local restaurants also provide an opportunity to try seafood and ingredients from the surrounding area. Before leaving, look back across Ao Yai from the viewpoint above the bay. From here, the position of the village between forest-covered hills and the sea becomes especially clear, giving you one of the best perspectives on how people have made their home on Koh Kood.

A JC Tour representative welcomes you at Trat Airport before your Private Transfer to Laem Sok Pier. Your JC Tour Heritage Guide joins you from here and takes care of the luggage, ferry check-in and arrangements for the crossing to Koh Kood.
The transfer has been planned as one continuous journey from airport to island. Your vehicle, ferry, guide and transportation on Koh Kood are arranged in advance, so there is very little for you to manage after arriving in Trat. |

Across the Sea to Koh Kood
Board the High-Speed Ferry from Laem Sok to Koh Kood.
As the ferry leaves the mainland, roads and buildings gradually disappear behind you and the open sea takes over. Later in the crossing, the green outline of Koh Kood begins to appear ahead.
This crossing is also useful time to settle into the trip before we begin exploring the island after arrival.

Welcome to Koh Kood
On arrival, your Private Vehicle & Local Professional Driver will already be waiting. The driver knows the island roads and local areas well and will travel with us throughout the program.
There is no need to drive to the resort first and then return north again. Your luggage is taken care of while we begin the day directly from this part of the island. This saves unnecessary driving and gives us more useful time at our first stops. |

Ao Salad Fishing Village
Our first visit is Ao Salad Fishing Village, a coastal community in northern Koh Kood. Houses, wooden walkways, small restaurants and fishing boats sit closely together around the sheltered bay.
We take time to walk through the village and observe the boats, fishing equipment, small shops and everyday activity around the community. Depending on the season, you may also find fresh seafood and locally prepared seafood products for sale.
Ao Salad is a good place to begin this particular journey because it introduces Koh Kood through the people who live here. The sea surrounding the island provides food, work and income for local families, and fishing remains visible in everyday village life. |

Local Seafood Lunch
Lunch is served within the Ao Salad community, with seafood and local ingredients selected according to seasonal availability.
Eating here also gives us more time in the village rather than making a quick visit and immediately leaving. The fishing boats you see outside, the local community and the seafood served at the table are all closely connected. |

Giant Makha Tree
After lunch, we leave the coast and travel into the greener interior of Koh Kood to visit the Giant Makha Tree.
The change in landscape happens gradually. Boats and open sea disappear from view as the road passes gardens, tropical vegetation and increasingly shaded forest.
Once we reach the tree, take time to walk around its enormous trunk and look upward into the canopy. Moss, ferns, vines and smaller plants have established themselves around the tree, giving a good indication of how long this forest environment has been developing.
There is no need to spend a long time here. What matters is having enough time to look closely and appreciate the scale of one of Koh Kood's remarkable old trees. |

Klong Yai Kee Waterfall
Continue to Klong Yai Kee Waterfall, hidden within the forest of northern Koh Kood.
The walk toward the waterfall is part of the visit. Road noise gradually fades and is replaced by leaves, birds and running water. At the end of the trail, freshwater flows through the rocks into a natural pool shaded by the surrounding forest.
You can explore the area, sit on the rocks or swim when water levels and weather conditions are suitable. We allow enough time here so that the waterfall does not become another quick photo stop.
Earlier at Ao Salad, we saw how the sea supports the local community. Here, the landscape changes completely. Forest and freshwater are equally important parts of Koh Kood's natural environment. |

A Quiet Moment by the Sea
Before checking in, we stop briefly at a suitable coastal area based on the day's route, conditions and the location of the resort.
There is no scheduled activity here. Walk barefoot along the beach, sit down with a cold drink or spend a little time looking out across the sea after an afternoon in the forest.
We deliberately keep this part of the day simple. After several hours of travelling and exploring, the pace begins to slow before we reach the resort. |

Koh Kood Paradise Beach Resort
Arrive at Koh Kood Paradise Beach Resort, check in and settle into your room.
The JC Tour Product Team selected this resort because its beachfront location, tropical surroundings and comfortable accommodation fit the character of Koh Kood Nature & Local Heritage particularly well. After spending the day moving between a fishing community, forest and waterfall, you can finish the afternoon back beside the sea.
There is no scheduled program for the rest of the evening. Walk along the beach, use the resort facilities, watch the evening light along Koh Kood's western coast, or choose dinner at your own pace.

Wake up to another morning on Koh Kood and enjoy breakfast at the resort.
There is no reason for an early rush today. After breakfast, you still have time for coffee, a walk along the beach or a quiet morning at the resort before your guide and vehicle arrive. |

Depart from the Resort
Your Private Vehicle & Local Professional Driver and JC Tour Heritage Guide will be ready to take you toward the central part of Koh Kood.
As we leave the resort area, the scenery gradually changes. Coconut groves, local homes and forest begin to replace the beachfront landscape. This is the part of Koh Kood that can easily be missed when most of a holiday is spent beside the sea. |

Klong Chao Waterfall
Our first visit is Klong Chao Waterfall, one of Koh Kood's best-known freshwater areas and a place with an interesting connection to the island's history.
Water from the forested interior flows over the rocks into a large natural pool before continuing through the local water system toward the coast. Seeing the waterfall in the morning helps us understand where some of the island's freshwater begins before we later return to the Klong Chao coastal area in the afternoon.
The waterfall is also associated with the visit of King Vajiravudh, Rama VI, giving the site an additional historical connection to Koh Kood.
Your Heritage Guide walks with you into the forest and explains the area before leaving plenty of time to explore. Depending on water levels and weather conditions, you can swim in the natural pool, sit beside the water or simply enjoy the cooler air beneath the trees.
We schedule the waterfall in the morning so there is no need to hurry. You have enough time to walk in comfortably and enjoy the area before we continue. |

Nature Walk
After visiting the waterfall, we continue with a Nature Walk in a suitable area nearby. The exact route can be selected according to the season, weather and the ability of the travelers on the day.
This is an easy observational walk rather than a demanding trek.
Under the forest canopy, your guide can point out local plants, vines, ferns, traces of water movement and other details that are easy to walk past without noticing. Listen as well as look. Birds and other forest life are often heard before they are seen.
The purpose is straightforward: spend enough time inside the forest to see how different the interior of Koh Kood is from the beaches surrounding it. |

Stop for lunch at a local restaurant selected to fit today's route.
The menu may include seafood and other ingredients available locally or seasonally. We allow enough time for a comfortable meal and a proper break after the morning in the forest.
Local food also provides another small insight into island life. What is caught, grown or available around Koh Kood naturally finds its way into the everyday cooking of the people who live here. |

Klong Mad Village
In the afternoon, we visit Klong Mad Village, one of Koh Kood's long-established communities.
Klong Mad remains a working village rather than a place arranged around sightseeing. Houses, the canal, fishing boats, coconut groves and small pathways are all part of everyday life here.
For that reason, we do not arrive with a checklist of landmarks. We walk through the community at an easy pace and pay attention to what is actually happening around us.
Your Heritage Guide can explain the background of the village, local fishing, coconut cultivation and some of the changes Koh Kood has experienced as tourism has developed. When the opportunity arises, there may also be time to speak with local residents.
This part of the day is deliberately about people as much as place. |

Local Life & Island Products
We keep a little more time at Klong Mad rather than leaving immediately after the walk.
What you find will depend on the day. It may be a small local shop, coconut products, seafood, something prepared within the village or simply a short conversation with someone who lives here.
We prefer to leave some flexibility because local experiences do not always happen according to a timetable.
If you find something you would like to take home, buying directly from local residents is also a simple way for part of your travel spending to remain within the community. |

Klong Chao Beach
After spending much of the day in the forest and local community, we return to the coast at Klong Chao Beach.
This timing is intentional. In the morning, we visited Klong Chao Waterfall and saw freshwater coming from the forested interior. By afternoon, we are back beside the sea in the same wider area of the island.
There is no scheduled activity to complete here. Walk barefoot along the beach, swim, find some shade or sit near the water.
The afternoon light is also softer along Koh Kood's western coast, making this a good time to be on the beach rather than adding another inland stop. |

Slow Afternoon by the Sea
We leave this part of the afternoon open.
No additional waterfall. No extra village. No detour simply to make the itinerary longer.
Swim if you feel like it, walk along the beach, stop for a drink or find somewhere comfortable and stay there for a while.
After a morning in the forest and an afternoon in Klong Mad, this is useful downtime before returning to the resort. |

Sunset & Return to the Resort
If weather conditions are suitable, stay for the late-afternoon light along Koh Kood's western coast before returning to the resort.
The day began beside freshwater in the forest and finishes beside the sea. More importantly, you have had enough time in between to see the forest, walk through a local community, eat locally and still enjoy the beach without turning the day into a race.
Return to Koh Kood Paradise Beach Resort and enjoy the rest of the evening at your own pace.

Ao Yai Fishing Village
Arrive at Ao Yai Fishing Village, a long-established coastal community on the southeastern side of Koh Kood.
Before entering the village, we stop at a viewpoint above the bay. From here, you can see wooden houses extending over the water, fishing boats inside the sheltered bay and green hills rising behind the community. It is one of the clearest views of how the village sits between the sea and forest.
We then continue into Ao Yai and walk along the wooden pathways above the water.
There is no particular landmark we need to find. Look around instead at boats tied beside homes, fishing equipment, seafood being prepared, small restaurants and the normal routines of the people who live here.
If our timing coincides with fishing boats returning to shore, you may see catches being unloaded and the village becoming noticeably busier. The peaceful bay then takes on another role as a working area for fishermen, boats, seafood and local families. |

The Fishermen's Way of Life
We keep additional time in Ao Yai rather than walking through the village and immediately returning to the vehicle.
Your Heritage Guide can explain how fishing has shaped life on Koh Kood, how seafood moves from the boats into the community, and how tourism has gradually become another source of income for island families.
Depending on what is happening that morning, there may be an opportunity to look at locally sold seafood or other products, speak with residents, or simply observe the activity around the village without interrupting people's work.
Ao Yai does not need a demonstration arranged for visitors. Fishing boats still go to sea, families still work around the bay, and restaurants continue to use seafood from the surrounding waters. That everyday activity is what makes the village worth spending time in. |

Seafood Lunch by the Sea
Before leaving Ao Yai, enjoy lunch at a restaurant within the village or nearby, with seafood and seasonal ingredients selected according to availability.
By this point, you have already seen the fishing boats and the community that works around them. Sitting down for seafood here makes the connection between the surrounding sea and local food easy to understand.
Take your time over lunch and enjoy the view across the bay before we begin the journey back toward the ferry. |

Across Koh Kood
Leave Ao Yai and travel across the island toward the departure pier for the ferry back to Laem Sok.
We deliberately avoid adding another attraction during this part of the day. Ferry schedules matter, and there is no benefit in squeezing in one more stop and then rushing to the pier.
Instead, enjoy the drive across Koh Kood. Coconut groves, local homes, small roads leading into communities and sections of forest pass outside the window. After three days on the island, much of this landscape will already feel familiar.

Afternoon | High-Speed Ferry to Laem Sok
Board the High-Speed Ferry and leave Koh Kood for Laem Sok in Trat.
As the ferry moves away, the island's green hills gradually become smaller behind you. When you saw those same hills on the first day, Ao Salad, the Giant Makha Tree, Klong Yai Kee, Klong Chao, Klong Mad and Ao Yai were still names on an itinerary.
Now you know what each of them actually looks and feels like.
Ferry times may change according to the operator's schedule, season, weather and sea conditions. The morning itinerary will always be coordinated with the actual ferry departure time.
